Several players have ended their run with River allowing Coach Angel Cappa to work with a reduced squad, as was his intention in the beginning of preseason training. There still looms a possibility that another reinforcement may arrive soon.
River’s new signings arrived, and there is still hope for more new faces. But there is another point to mention and it is that a great number of players were cut since they did not meet Coach Cappa’s expectations. Many familiar names will no longer be associated with River, a risky move that could prove successful or not.
Between personal departures and end-of-contracts, key players such as Marcelo Gallardo, Oscar Ahumada, Gustavo Cabral, Nicholas Navarro, Gonzalo Luduena, Mauro Rosales, Martin Galmarini and Cristian Villagra will not continue at the club. In addition, a disclose Israeli club is interested in acquiring Matias Abelairas.
In addition, Diego Barrado, Andres Rios and Maximiliano Oliva are seeking new clubs as they did not take advantage of playing to their best abilities. Some players were relegated to River’s reserve squad such as Maximiliano Coronel, Pezzella Germain, Fabio Gimenez and Lucas Orban.
The situation is different for the following players: Facundo Quiroga, Rodrigo Archubi, Daniel Vega, Juan Ojeda and Gustavo Canales. Quiroga and Archubi have not even trained with River thus far, which practically eliminates them from the club. Vega and Ojeda still seek to renew their contracts with the club despite knowing that they may be permanent substitutes when Juan Pablo Carrizo makes his presence. Canales has been training with the squad but has been closely linked with first-division club, Colon.
