With the passing of days and weeks, many names have been linked to River Plate. From the last time I updated everyone on the possible transfers, nothing has been concrete or confirmed from the club itself. Cristian Fabbiani is still connected to Newell’s Old Boys as his club paid him the salary that he was owed. He is being required to join the Rosario club for preseason training but he refuses to go and is willing to stay away from the field until his transfer to River is complete. Humberto Mendoza is still connected with Nacional of Medellin (Colombia) and he seems to be the most probable player to arrive at River. His deal is coming to an end and the club will acquire him on a loan, but it has been unconfirmed by the club.
Both players are yet to make their move official, with various roadblocks affecting each player. River has a few weeks to finalize any deal and will need to do a lot of homework to acquire these players.
I wanted to update everyone on three new possible transfers that have been circulating in the media and in La Pagina Millonaria.
Matias Almeyda – The 35-year-old veteran is back in Argentina and has signed with third division club, Fenix, to play local matches with the team. Upon announcing his retirement and resting in Pinamar, he was contacted by La Pagina Millonaria as rumor was that he would return to River. Matias has played in clubs Sevilla (Spain), Lazio-Parma-Inter-Brescia (Italy), Lyn (Norway), and Quilmes (Argentina).
Aquivaldo Mosquera – This Colombian player, most notably known for playing in Mexico’s Pachuca and winning various titles, is currently in Spanish side Sevilla. The lack of games and consideration from the head coach, Mosquera is looking elsewhere for continuation and River’s name has been linked with the player. Although no formal offer or contact has occurred, both sides would be happy to come to a deal.
Edgar Davids – Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the famous Dutch, Edgar Davis, has been linked with River Plate. The 35-year-old defensive midfielder has stated numerous times that he would love to finish his career in Argentina. His representative has given numerous clubs in Argentina the chance to sign Edgar but as an avid River fan, the rep. put River in the top spot. Imagine seeing this talented player wearing a red diagonal stripe on his chest?
