Just past noon, Daniel Passarella was officially given the reigns of Club Atletico River Plate. The event took place just outside the Monumental Stadium, in front of a multitude of fans and press. Many came to experience the atmosphere that transpired after the historic election last Saturday. ‘La Pagina Millonaria’ was there to experience the inauguration and Daniel Passarella’s first speech as River’s new President.
“I appreciate all the fans, who on Saturday, voted for a change. I’m very happy; they put their faith and trust in me. We know we have a great responsibility from now on. We do not want to disappoint them and we will try to follow through with everything we’ve said in our project.”
“River will always be the priority above any names and men. I now invite all River supporters to a reunion. But everybody, everybody, need to be reunited, because River needs everyone. I alone cannot get River out of the situation where it is currently at. I need help, not only of the 5,298 voters that voted for me, I need the 17 million fans that support River in Argentina.”
“And really, finally, I want to demostrate what I want for River, which is to get back to being River Plate; which is what I lived through when I came to the club in 1974: that said (pointing to his granddaughters and his family), I want River to be a family.”
