For almost a month, the “Ogre” from Rosario has demanded to join River. He went through some tough negotiations with his current club to allow him to leave but neither him or the club met “eye to eye”. River agreed to send Santiago Salcedo back to Newell’s in exchange for Fabbiani but Newell’s wanted additional money along with Salcedo. Yesterday, it was announced that both clubs could not reach an agreement and negotiations have stopped. Now, Cristian Fabbiani will not join River and it seems that Velez Sarsfield could be his next desitnation.
This comes as strong blow to both the player and River. Both parties wanted to come to reach an agreement but Newell’s was the main block with the transfer. The main issue here was money. Newell’s requested more money from River despite River’s attempt to return Santiago Salcedo. This disappointing news hit the management, team, and fans really hard. The desire of a player desperately wanting to join River and the player’s love for the club was just what was needed to uplift some moods but reality hit hard, this time.
As mentioned before, it seems like Velez Sarsfield has been watching this deal very closely from outside, similar as to how vultures watch lions eat a carcass. The “swooped” in at the right moment and could be in control of the “Ogre’s” future. If this deal does happen, it will be a major letdown and another reminder as to why we need a change in the direction of the club, starting from the man at the top.
