First and foremost, I want to say that it has been a great month since the last post I did for the ‘La Pagina Millonaria’. With the start of the World Cup, I have been glued to the television set watching every match and seeing how the tournament develops. One excellent factor is that Argentina is doing great, being leader of Group B, and having a great chance of winning the cup. Additionally, Gonzalo Higuain has been representing River Plate really well. His hat-trick against South Korea confirmed to me that he could have been still playing for River if it wasn’t for the mess that Jose Maria Aguilar did with transfers.
Back to the world of River, Coach Angel Cappa’s men met this morning at the Monumental Stadium to begin preseason training for the upcoming Apertura tournament. Each member of the squad was subjected to physical and medical examinations during the practice. This step was crucial as returning from a long vacation sometimes causes the players to be out-of-shape and not fit to partake if the rigorous exercises. There are a total of 42 players that visited today’s inaugural practice, some new faces and some old.
The second day of practice will take place tomorrow at the Monumental Stadium while Wednesday’s practice will be in the training grounds in Ezeiza. It has been confirmed that River will head to the province of Salta in northern Argentina to continue the preseason training and play a number of exhibitions. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the quest to remain in the first division and bring another title has begun.
