It’s official, ladies and gentlemen. Radamel Falcao Garcia has left River Plate to join Portuguese triple champion FC Porto in a five-year deal worth 5.5 million euros. It was speculated that Radamel would be leaving River anytime soon with numerous clubs in the hunt for his services. The “Tiger” will continue his future endeavors in Europe and based on FC Porto’s champion status, the Colombian will be able to play in the following Champions League.
With his new contract, the “Tiger” will belong to FC Porto until 2013. In addition, Radamel will be receiving almost a million euros per year. Before the transfer was completed, River had to negotiate with the player which, for some, was a gesture of gratitude. In typical fashion in Argentine clubs, there was money owed to Falcao for his services but the Colombian decided to erase the debt for a smooth transfer. As one can see, his humbleness paid off in the end.
One of the highlights of the move will be the reunification of past River players in the Portuguese squad. Ernesto Farias and Fernando Belluschi will welcome Radamel Falcao to his new club and the ambience will be the same as when these three players shared a locker room. If all goes as planned, Radamel will be traveling to Portugal no later than Thursday, July 16th.
Leaving with over 100 appearances with the club since 2005 and scoring over 40 goals, Radamel leaves the club that gave him life. Many fans will agree that he always gave his best on the field despite his latest dry spell in the net. Other fans will agree that Radamel owed River many goals and could never finish a play. Truth to the matter is that he will always be part of the team’s history. Radamel’s final words to everyone in the world of River are “River is my home, and I want to return one day.” We’ll miss you, Tiger!
