For the past month, there has been no mention of any signing to the club. Many names have been linked with River but nothing has been done. The only news under this section is the departure of Radamel Falcao to FC Porto. Other than that, the transfer window has been empty and time is ticking away for the Millonarios. Coach Nestor Gorosito has been in talks with those in charge of signing new players but empty promises and false hopes is all that he received.
River, like all other football clubs in Argentina, are under economic pressure. Negative numbers and poor influx of money have forced clubs to cut costs dramatically. The only way to bring more funds into the club is to sell players abroad, but this historic trend associated with the club has disappeared. It seems that no clubs want to negotiate with River for many reasons, including high demand prices, lack of organization in the club, or lack of players.
Since the foundation of the club, River’s youngsters have been making headlines worldwide. With a tremendous winning history in the lower divisions, River’s youngsters have been winning games and tournaments both locally and internationally. With the pressure to sell, River’s management quickly sends off these potential stars to other clubs. This causes these players to rise in another jersey and potentially never play for the first division squad. Unfortunately, it has been a nasty trend that is more realistic than ever.
With no signings in the future and a team that desperately needs reinforcements, what will become of River in the upcoming tournaments? Marcelo Gallardo and Ariel Ortega are idols, but their age is certainly a factor in relying on them for the win. With the local Apertura season in doubt due to AFA negotiations, River may have extra time to surprise.
