The strong and confident goalkeeper that Daniel Passarella once coached, is about to embark in another journey with River. Having no space to play in Spanish-side Zaragoza, Juan Pablo Carrizo wants to return to River in hopes of acquiring more playing time and improving his stance as a solid goalkeeper. This would be his third time returning to the club, as his previous stint with River was in 2008 when he was on loan from Italy’s Lazio. With uncertainty looming under River’s goalposts, Carrizo returns to “help River”.
Some fans still don’t understand why Daniel Vega continues to be questioned after his acceptable performances during River’s past campaigns but one thing is for sure: there has not been a solid goalkeeper since he left. When Daniel Passarella was River’s coach a few seasons ago, he made Carrizo debut at the age of 22. His outstanding performances secured him a spot in the starting line-up, and soon he was off to Europe. In Lazio, he was ordered to become an Italian national as the ‘foreigner capacity’ rule in the squad was full. Carrizo’s paperwork was delayed, and he returned to River in 2008 to await his Italian nationality and play for River. He returned to Lazio as a champion, but was criticized for his performances during key matches.
Carrizo was sent on-loan to Spain’s Zaragoza this year, where he unfortunately did poorly. He was told that he would not be part of the squad next season, and Carrizo now found himself without a club. As he witnessed River struggle during the Clausura tournament, president Daniel Passarella, began contacts with the player. All is left is for Carrizo, Lazio, and River to finalize negotiations, and the much-respected goalkeeper will make his third appearance for the club.
