As many expected after the match with San Lorenzo, Nestor Gorosito left River Plate after a gruesome 10 months with the club. It took him forty minutes to leave the locker room and face the media outlets awaiting his final speech as coach of River. His speech, lasting sixty-nine seconds, was as depressing as his coaching style.
With a glossy look in his eyes and a frustrated glance, he approached the nearly thirty journalists outside the locker room. When he referred to the term ‘we’, he was speaking for his whole coaching staff. “We’re leaving the club. We have no doubt that whoever arrives will have a better strategy and will move forward. We noticed that it is too difficult and the person after will be more powerful. There is going to be fresh air. A new face will motivate the team to get River out of this situation, which is unjustifiable. Based on history, River should not be where it’s at.”
Nestor Gorosito decided to not answer any questions on his decision to leave but he added a few more words. “We decided to step aside since we were not meeting goals and let someone else bring the team forward. I thank the players, that gave us the opportunity to win, and to the fans who kept supporting the team.” As he stepped in the team bus, he finished his last words with a “good night”. It was a good night, he left.
