The classic game between River Plate and Racing Club has always been a heated one. The history between the two clubs clearly shows a dominant River with most games won between the two. Today’s match would not only be a classic, but it would also play a crucial match in determining an unfortunate future for both clubs. For Racing, the reality of descending to the second division league continues to haunt the ‘Academy’, while River is trying to avoid a similar situation for the next tournament in July. Tonight, River once again showed its dominance against Racing Club and defeated the team 3-0.
It was a magical night for Rogelio Funes Mori as the youngster scored three goals tonight. This was a major accomplishment for the forward as he struggled through out the season in finishing off plays. Luckily, tonight he was on fire and his new guidance from Coach Cappa surely paid off. Right from the start, River went to demonstrate that it needed the three points under any means necessary. Ariel Ortega had another magical night, pushing the team forwards in many directions. Along with Paulo Ferrari, River’s offensive was intense. On the down side, River’s defense was a little groggy when certain counter attacks took place but Daniel Vega no ball went through. Unfortunately for Matias Almeyda, who’s future is dim with the club, was ejected from the match and will miss the final match of the tournament.
It is important to note that Coach Angel Cappa has had a great record since taking the coaching position. He has won three games and lost only one, which is a major improvement from past games. There is only one game left in the 2010 Clausura tournament, in which River faces Tigre at home. If things go as successful as they have become, River will leave this tournament with a more positive outlook than it has had in the past year. Who knows, this may be the starting point of a new era for River, and for Coach Cappa.
