Even though River did not prove itself on the pitch, the club has proved itself in the crowds. For a third straight time in a row, the Millonarios have been the number one team in selling tickets according to AFA, the governing body of the Argentine football in the nation. The numbers clearly show that River had a strong lead against arch-rivals Boca Juniors by a whopping 120,000 tickets! Once again, the best supporters in Argentina are from River.
Despite embarrassing losses to smaller clubs, ridiculous ties, and painful exits from international tournaments, the fans have shown that love for the “red and white” is unconditional. Based on AFA numbers, River is the number one team in selling tickets in home and away matches. One interesting note is that out of the 19 matches in the 2009 Clausura Tournament, River sold out 18 matches. River could have easily sold out the last match but with the rising cases of swine flu hitting the capital, fear became the winner.
CONGRATULATION RIVER SUPPORTERS!
