With his 35 years of age, Matias Almeyda continues to be an important part of River’s structure. Many are shocked and surprised that he continues to give all that he’s got on the field, while doing it with style. His age has nothing to do with his love for River. He has put aside economical differences and possible health ailments. His desire to bring back River into a competitive stance is all that strives for.
It is always important to recognize those who are worth being recognized. In this River, it is really hard to find just that. Matias Almeyda has proved to everyone that he is the unsung hero of many matches. He continues to display a certain aura of excellence in his time on the field. On Saturday’s match against Estudiantes, his leadership role was easily noticed through out the match. In fact, he stopped a possible 2-0 lead by Estudiantes before River tied the match. His future with the club continues to be uncertain, but every fan knows that he should be wearing River’s jersey in 2010.
