Can It Get Any Worse?
The motivation to post this update is long gone. It’s been week after week that I have had to post a negative post, even when River won against Defensor Sporting. It is a really sad state for our beloved club that I cannot find the heart to criticize the team anymore. What happened Sunday in Jujuy made me not want to watch River for a long time but I know that I cannot do this, even if I tried. With a 1-0 loss against Gimnasia of Jujuy, River remained in second to last place in the Apertura and totally lost its credibility, on and off the field.
Even when fans like myself think that a turn around is bound to happen soon, it never does. The first forty-five minutes of the match was as boring as watching the World Series. River managed to reach Gimnasia’s goalkeeper less than five teams and each time is got worse. So much talent in the club and the players seem to play without motivation. As long as they are getting paid, it doesn’t matter what the result it. Only a few players have demonstrated week after week that an intention to win is achievable. Other than that, it’s been secrecy to everyone. As the half ended, a blank stare was shown on every River player heading towards the locker rooms. Sounds motivating to you?
Diego Simeone has much to blame with River’s current situation and his arrogance has kept him in place. Although River’s president, Jose Maria Aguilar, wants to resign this coach until next year, the reality is that it won’t happen. Diego does have some useful tactics, and it may result in his favor in other clubs but in River it has not. When the second half started, I was confident River would score. Come on, against a team like Gimnasia of Jujuy and River having great forwards! Well, my wish did come true and I did see a goal but it wasn’t for River. The final dagger.
On Wednesday, River face Newell’s in the upcoming match of the season and it doesn’t look pretty. I know that many fans will show up at the stadium but I don’t think that they’ll be there to cheer the team. Chants against the coach, players, and management will be numerous and it may be possible that some problems occur if River loses again. At this point, I am fed up and wish River the best of luck. I support this River will all my heart but I know that what I see on the field is not River. It is a group of individuals; thieves might say some, which play with NO HEART and NO RESPECT.
