King of Draws in Sarandi
It has been an interesting tournament for River in this Apertura. With so many chances to win matches, it really bothers me that a win is hard to achieve. On Sunday afternoon, River went to visit Arsenal of Sarandi, a tough team who through out the years has demonstrated that they have what it takes to win important matches against any club.
River looked very confident when the match commenced. Control of the ball was important and our squad did an excellent job in accomplishing this task. Arsenal seemed a bit lost in the beginning minutes but they quickly organized themselves to regain control of the ball. Little by little, River lost possession and created small fouls which Arsenal quickly took advantage of. At the 19th minute, River was awarded a penalty and the brought some relief to both fans and players. The man that every fan would save the team, Olympian Diego Buonanotte, was a dull star in the match. Many have said that he has not been the same as last season but the desire to play better can be seen in his look. As the first half came to an end, Arsenal managed to tie the game of a wonderful shot by Casteglione and the draw seemed to be the appropriate result based on the performance of the Millonarios.
One of the main things that affect me is the lack of keeping a steady strategy. As Diego Simeone keeps moving players around and deciding on whose better for the following team, the rivals already know what to do. It amazes me that the simplest strategies are not performed correctly while the hardest are always manageable. Unfortunately, I was right. In the 16th minute of the second half, Arsenal took the lead as Yacuzzi blew a shot past Ojeda. At this point, I was fuming! It seemed that River fell back on every play while Arsenal attacked repeatedly. Ojeda became the man of the match for the Millonarios based on this excellent saves. He was doubted due to his height and recognition but he has a solid position in the goal area.
River began attacking more towards the end of the game and thanks to a header by Radamel Falcao, the loss turned into a tie. Many chances were committed to win the game, with one shot hitting the goal post but the reality was that a draw was going to be the final result. Hopefully, and I can only hope so much, is that River wins against Velez Sarsfield on Wednesday and we get closer to the top because at this rate, River is not going nowhere.
